At home together - The Magpie's Tale

Have you ever been told that you are too short or too small to do something you want to do?

I have never been tall and this has happened to me lots of times!

A man called Zacchaeus (from the Bible) was very short and he wanted to see and hear Jesus so he climbed up a tree to get a better look.

Lots of people didn't like Zacchaeus because he had taken their money but once Jesus had spoken to him he gave back all the money and more. He was sorry for what he had done and he was forgiven.

We all do things that are wrong but it is what we do when we have made a mistake that is important. The best thing to do is to say 'sorry' and ask to be forgiven.

Here are some questions to think about:

  • Why did the magpie have a ring in his beak?
  • Why had lots of people gathered under the tree?
  • Why didn't people like Zacchaeus?
  • What surprised Zacchaeus about Jesus?
  • How do you think the crowd felt when Jesus spoke to Zacchaeus and asked to come to his house?
  • Why did Jesus choose to go to Zacchaeus' house?
  • What made Zacchaeus change and become like a different man?
  • Where had the magpie got the ring?

Have a go a making some trees this week. You could make them out of cardboard tubes, draw some trees, make a tree collage or have a go at the craft on the video.
