Monday 23rd March

Come, O Spirit of God,

and make within us your dwelling place and home.

May our darkness be dispelled by your light,

and our troubles calmed by your peace;

May all evil be redeemed by your love,

all pain transformed through the suffering of Christ,

and all dying glorified in his risen life. Amen.

The Holy Spirit is the breath of God. Breathe deeply several times before and after you say this prayer.

Psalm 121 verses 1-3

I lift up my eyes to the hills; from where is my help to come?

My help comes from the Lord the maker of heaven and earth.

He will not suffer your foot to stumble; he who watches over you will not sleep

Listen to the dawn chorus about 5.30am and say these verses

The prayer for Mothering Sunday

God of love, passionate and strong, tender and careful:

watch over and hold us all the days of our life;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The God who consoles us so we might console others… 2. Corinthians 1. 3-7

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God. For just as the sufferings of Christ are abundant for us, so also our consolation is abundant through Christ. If we are being afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation; if we are being consoled, it is for your consolation, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we are also suffering. Our hope for you is unshaken; for we know that as you share in our sufferings, so also may you share in our consolation.

Put this verse by the phone. Read it before you make a call…

Near the top of my prayer list

  • Wedding couples, some of who find the postponement (to when?) of their wedding a really tough decision. Should they marry with only two witnesses present?
  • The burial of Jean on Thursday at Hasfield Church, with only close family present. No service in Ashleworth church until a better time. And for families of those having ‘burial only’ services in the days ahead.
  • Our health workers and those working in supermarkets.
  • Teachers returning to care for vulnerable children and children of key workers
  • The people of Italy and Spain

God of compassion, be close to those who are ill, afraid or in isolation;

in their anxiety, be their hope; in their darkness, be their light; Amen.

Merciful God, we entrust to your tender care those who are ill or in pain,

knowing that whenever danger threatens your everlasting arms are there to hold them.

Comfort and heal them, and restore them to health and strength;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
