Armour of God… Ephesians 6. 13-18

13Therefore take up the whole armour of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. 15As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. 16With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.

Book of Common Prayer – Evensong

Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord;

and by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night;

for the love of thy only Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Night prayer (Compline)

Visit, we beseech thee, O Lord, this place,

and drive from it all the snares of the enemy;

let thy holy angels dwell herein to preserve us in peace;

and may thy blessing be upon us evermore;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Be present, O merciful God,

and protect us through the silent hours of this night,

so that we who are wearied

by the changes and chances of this fleeting world,

may repose upon thy eternal changelessness;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Pray for the United States, especially New York State, which has become the number 1 hotspot for Coronavirus, and whose unemployment rate is shooting up.

Pray for the Pope who is speaking to the world today (he usually does this only at Easter and Christmas) and who is urging us all to pray. Which we are doing…

1/ Oft in danger, oft in woe, onward, Christians, onward go;

bear the toil, maintain the strife, strengthen with the bread of life.

2/ Onward, Christians, onward go, join the war, and face the foe;

will ye flee in danger’s hour? Know ye not your Captain’s power?

3/ Let not sorrow dim your eye; soon shall every tear be dry:

let not fears your course impede; great your strength, if great your need.

4/ Let your drooping hearts be glad, march in heavenly armour clad;

fight, nor think the battle long: soon shall victory wake your song.

5/ Onward then in battle move; more than conquerors ye shall prove;

though opposed by many a foe, Christians soldiers, onward go.

Henry Kirke White 1785-1806 and others

May the peace of God which passes all understanding,

keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God,

And the blessing of God almighty, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

be with you now and always. Amen.
