In light of the recent floods I wonder if the information below about support for those recovering from flooding may be use to you?

Subject: specific help for flood victims

I run Acts 435, an online giving charity set up by the Archbishop of York, based in York but operating across the UK.  We operate through participating churches and Christian charities who post requests for help for people in need onto our website www.acts435.org.uk – school shoes for a family in poverty, furniture for a homeless person being rehoused, transport to get to a new job opportunity, etc.  Once the amount has been raised (and 98% of our requests are met), then we pass the money on by direct bank transfer to the appropriate church bank account to be distributed to the individual applicants.

Donors are responding – we have helped over 3,000 people so far – and love the fact they can help someone in such tangible way.

We would love to be helping victims of the recent floods and we imagine that there must be a number of specific needs amongst the poorest and most vulnerable affected where cash for a particular item/cost would be a huge blessing.  We are prepared to post requests on behalf of the churches working in these areas to strip away all administration from them (so they can focus on the practical support they are giving).  We explain this in our blog here: http://acts435.org.uk/blog/2014/02/help-for-flood-victims.html

I am sure you will know which churches could make use of this resource.  Could you forward my email onto those churches?  Or let me know the churches you would suggest I contact directly?  Revd. Ed Saville, SRO for Blackburn Diocese, has been an Acts 435 advocate for over 2 years and would be a good reference as to the help that can be offered to those in need in your Diocese.

Thank you for your time.

Kind regards

Jenny Herrera
